Printed Readings

The talk in the media is that we are seeing the death of printed magazines. I find this quite sad, as I’ve always enjoyed going to the local newsstand and spending time browsing the latest publications. Recently I’ve found that my favorite publications are foreign (I’m in the U.S.) magazines that are more focused on timeless content as opposed to current events. This allows them be great reads even if they are older issues, which make them less disposable so they are more worth the shelf space.

apartamento is an interior design magazine from Spain and Italy. It does a wonderful job of interviewing normal peoples and showing off their houses in a way that gives you an insight into why their house might look the way it does in reflection to the persons personality.

carl’s cars is as the under title puts it “a magazine about people.” Based out of Norway carl’s cars  does a really good job of showing off the people side of “car culture” by incorporating creative photography, interesting stories and a bit of fashion and art.

GUP (Guide to Unique Photography), published in Amsterdam, is, as the title hints, a guide to interesting and unique photography. Each issue picks a theme and a displays fun though often somewhat artsy photos of the theme, along with maybe short interviews with the photographers.
